Angioplasty is a minimally invasive, endovascular procedure to widen narrowed or obstructed arteries or veins, typically to treat arterial atherosclerosis. The arteries can become blocked or narrowed from effects of cholesterol, cells or plaque. This can cause chest uncomforted due to reduced blood flow to the heart. Sometimes a blood clot can suddenly form or get worse and completely block blood flow, leading to heart attack.
Angioplasty opens blocked arteries and restores normal blood flow to the heart. It is done by threading a catheter (thin tube) through a small puncture in a leg or arm artery to the heart. The blocked artery is opened by inflating a tiny balloon in it.
Deciding about the Surgery
If you are having lots of discomfort in your chest then it may be because of the blocked arteries and it may lead to a heart attack or death even because the heart is most important organ inside the human body. It is important for all other organs to function properly. So Angioplasty must be done to ensure that this situation is avoided.
What can you expect during the surgery?
As the surgery is minimally invasive, it causes little pain to the body. The area where the catheter is inserted gets numb by anesthesia. Medicine may be given to relax you because you are awake at that time. Bruising is also common at the point of insertion.
